'Within Reach' A Sculptural Tribute in Seattle's Fremont Neighborhood"
Situated in the bustling Fremont neighborhood of Seattle, near the iconic Fremont Bridge, stands 'Within Reach' – a metal sculpture that gracefully combines art with utility. It is a nod to Seattle's vibrant bike culture, thoughtfully serving as both a visual delight and a functional bike rack.
Designed to commemorate 'Bike to Work Day' at the Fremont Lake Union Center, a Kilroy Realty property, 'Within Reach' reflects the city's commitment to sustainable transport and community engagement. As dusk falls, the sculpture transforms into an illuminated beacon, thanks to its LED-lit canopy, enhancing the night-time ambiance and doubling as a beacon for geocaching adventurers. One of the most enchanting features of 'Within Reach' is its dynamic interaction with natural light, creating a leaf-shaped shadow on the ground that symbolizes the sculpture's deep connection with nature and the surrounding community. Each component of 'Within Reach' was carefully sculpted in my Seattle studio, embodying a blend of urban and natural aesthetics. The sculpture's design, featuring hand-painted elements, is inspired by themes of leaves and roots, signifying growth and interconnectedness. This unique creation is not just an art piece; it's a celebration of the harmonious coexistence of urban life and natural beauty. |
