My studio has been my primary workspace for the last 30 years. It all started in a modest one-car garage, which, despite its simplicity and lack of equipment, was where I began to shape a creative and productive environment reflective of my personal ethos. Over the years, my journey has taken me through various cities, including Denver, San Francisco and Seattle, each studio marking a new chapter in my artistic development.
In Denver, Colorado, I set up my first official studio and co-founded a gallery and sculpture garden. My path then led me to Marin County in the Bay Area, where I worked from a studio situated at a small airport for five years. This period was instrumental in forging lasting connections with galleries and clients, relationships that I maintain to this day. My next move was to Seattle, where I established a studio on a vibrant street just outside downtown, featuring a display area that introduced my work to a broader audience. After 17 years in Seattle, building a network of private clients, architects, and builders in the Puget Sound area, I relocated to Olalla, WA. Here, a short ferry ride from Seattle, I've had the opportunity to design and construct my own studio on my property. Although I studied Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado, my artistic practice has largely evolved through self-led exploration and intuition.
Working across a diverse range of projects, from government public art programs to private commissions, has been immensely rewarding. I've collaborated closely with engineers, architects, project managers, and construction teams, adapting site-specific sculptures that integrate seamlessly into their intended environments. My use of computer design tools, compatible with industry standards, ensures effective communication from the concept phase right through to installation.
This website showcases a significant selection of my work, all of which I've crafted independently in my studio, from small pieces to large-scale installations. I look forward to the possibility of collaborating with you, bringing my experience and passion for sculpture into new creative ventures.

"With a background in architectural engineering and a heart firmly rooted in art, Troy Pillow blends these worlds seamlessly. His sculptures—found in public spaces and private collections—show a keen understanding of balance and form, making them accessible yet profound additions to any setting"
The Commission Process
I welcome commissions. It gives me the opportunity to work collaboratively with clients to create a custom piece that ultimately fulfills their vision. All sculptures are hand crafted at my studio in Olalla, Washington.
Together, we will explore the desired style of the sculpture, deliberating over materials, and the dynamics of movement. The size and positioning of the sculpture will be thoughtfully determined to ensure it enhances its intended environment. Through the use of a 3D visualization tool, clients will have the opportunity to preview the design. This virtual model can be integrated into a digital photograph or an architectural rendering for a detailed view. For kinetic sculptures, I can also produce a brief animation, providing a vivid demonstration of the sculpture’s intended motion. |
