Floating on a Cloud: A Serene Installation at Swedish Hospital, Seattle

'Floating on a Cloud' is a custom-commissioned kinetic mobile for the Swedish Hospital in Capitol Hill, Seattle. The challenge was to design a mobile suitable for an oval-shaped area at the entrance of the main lobby, spanning approximately 20 feet in diameter.

To compensate for the minimal wind movement in this indoor setting, I chose dichroic acrylic for the mobile's panels. This material's unique property allows it to change colors from blues to pinks as one moves through and around the lobby, creating an ethereal effect reminiscent of floating on a cloud. This dynamic yet tranquil artwork evokes a sense of peace and tranquility, harmonizing beautifully with the healing atmosphere of the hospital.
