The Swedish Medical Center campus in Issaquah recently held its Fall Arts Showcase 2013. According to Swedish, their art collection exists because “art heals.” As cited in its Issaquah Fall Arts Showcase pamphlet, “when patients become absorbed in a work of art, the physiology of the body actually changes, alleviating sensations of anxiety and pain.” The Swedish art collection includes 2,500+ pieces of art by Pacific Northwest artists. It was established in the 1960s to promote healing through art.
I’m proud to have four of my sculptures (Cone, Nurture, Fry & Pod) within the Swedish art collection. This set was designed specifically for Swedish/Issaquah. Cone was showcased in this year’s event and inhabits Floor 2. Nurture, Fry and Pod occupy floors 3 thru 5.
