Pursuit is a 14′ tall bronze sculpture patinaed in a dark brown located in the heart of the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. It serves as a public art piece for developerAvalonBay‘s new multi-use building, AVA Ballard.
It is located in the front courtyard helping define the main entry. The theme of the sculpture is spawning fish. Ballard is a neighborhood in Seattle that is located near the Chittenden Locks. The locks provide a link for boats between the salt water of Puget Sound and the fresh water of the Ship Canal, which connects eastward to Lake Union and Lake Washington. The locks also have a fish ladder in which spawning salmon use to complete their amazing journey back to the place that they were born. The neighborhood is rich in Scandinavian culture and has strong ties to the fishing community. My sculpture captures the interaction of a spawning salmon in a balanced ying/ yang composition. |
