I am interested in the connection that sculpture makes between people and the environments in which we live. By studying the natural order and proportions of objects found in nature, I create sculpture that has balance and simplicity. Utilizing wind and light as energy sources, I enable my sculpture to be affected by their surroundings. This interaction between sculpture and natural forces makes them become part of the environment. By creating sculpture that is based on natural fundamentals gives a unique life to my work, which is my way of connecting art to people.

Troy Pillow\'s sculpture is designed to be outdoor sculpture, in balance with the forces of nature and elements surrounding it. The materials and finishes are durable for any climate and require little maintenance. A majority of the pieces are kinetic in which stainless steel ball bearings are used. Kinetic pieces move gracefully by the energy placed on them by the wind. They are designed to withstand high winds yet are delicate enough to move with a slight breeze. Troy builds abstract, contemporary, modern, fine art and garden sculptures. He uses steel, stainless steel, bronze and glass. His public outdoor sculptures are displayed in public art programs, commercial developments and private collections throughout the counrty. Troy works and lives in Seattle, Washington. All sculpture is hand crafted at Troy\'s studio in Seattle, Washington. Commisons welcomed. Color Colored pieces are finished by powder coating or painted with a Dupont® two-stage paint, both being a long lasting finish. Stainless Stainless pieces are constructed from 304 series stainless steel unless requested otherwise. Bronze Bronze pieces are fabricated from silicon bronze with patina choices available. Glass Glass pieces are a mixed media combination in which the movement of the sun creates the lighting element for the sculpture. It changes shade and intensity throughout the day. Site Specific Characteristics of personality, architecture, location, dimensions, scale, and color scheme are factors considered in the design of the piece. The sculpture of Troy Pillow is a study in simplicity and movement. Using various metals, stainless steel and fused glass, he honors the materials through the elegance of design. Although Troy studied Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado, his work has developed primarily though experimentation and instinct. There is a playfulness to Pillow\'s work that is reminiscent of Calder or Miro, but there is also a respectful restraint in the design which is closer to George Rickey. Each design is distilled to its simplest elements. The sculptures have a lightness that plays with the air around them. They would be a great addition to any environment.
